“Where focus goes, energy flows.” – Tony Robbins
We commonly believe we must follow standard action patterns to achieve the desired outcomes and effects. However, our actions are guided by a more potent and vital driving force – our intention. Reiki treatment is the process that helps us access our intent to control and channel that energy and use it for our greater good.
What is Reiki?
All living beings have an unseen ‘life force energy’ flowing through their bodies. Reiki practitioners use this energy to provide healing therapy that reduces stress and promotes a healthy energy flow.
Reiki is a behaviour and belief approach toward personal gratification and is an exceptional healing and recovery process. Its principles and philosophies enable self-development among individuals and help them achieve life balance and all-round well-being.
While Reiki may seem like a new-age technique, it is actually an ancient form of energy healing that originated during the early 20th century in Japan. The term combines two Japanese words: “rei” and “ki.” The former means ‘universal,’ and the latter refers to the fundamental ‘life force energy.’
In simple terms, Reiki is a healing therapy that taps into your life force energy and channels those vibrations to promote self-healing abilities. Reiki practitioners are just a channel for that energy and not the source or cause of it. These professional practitioners sense the body’s energy blocks that bring negativity and move the energy for the clients’ greatest good.
How does it work?
Reiki is considered a complementary health proposition that works along with other prescribed medications and procedures. The practitioners place their hands above different body areas to activate the flowing energy’s healing powers. Reiki can be given by two methods: ‘hands-on’ or ‘at distance’ treatment.
‘Hands-on’ Reiki Method
Reiki hands-on treatment is given fully clothed, respecting your privacy and dignity. It is usually given lying down for enhanced relaxation, but you can also get the therapy sitting or standing. The practitioner places their hands on seven main chakra points or areas of the body to activate the healing process, creating a balance among those. The chakra points include the crown, throat, third eye, heart, solar plexus, root, and sacral. However, strict adherence to these points does not have a rigid rule since Reiki’s basic tenet is that it flows where it ‘needs to go.’
Every individual has a different experience during Reiki sessions. Typically, they feel relaxed and fall asleep or go into a drifting state during treatment. Sometimes people feel warmth, tingling, a floating sensation, and a sense of peace and certainty. Few people even shed tears as the therapy reaches a mental level releasing their emotional pain. Once the session is complete, they feel calm and relaxed as the body is free from that hoarded distress’ weight, bringing a sense of increased energy.
‘At distance’ Reiki Healing
The ‘at distance’ process can be given anywhere, even through a phone call. The recipient and practitioner arrange a mutually convenient time to conduct the session. This is a fascinating aspect of Reiki that a master can heal anyone anytime from any distance.
Apart from Reiki’s direct healing, another vital aspect is your commitment to your own well-being. Reiki can work through your mind-body synchronization only when you intend to be healthy and accept and embrace your well-being.
Personal Experience
Having gone through some distressing events in my own life, I always felt that there was no solution to my pain. What came with me since childhood would remain with me throughout my life. This is what I believed and how I pushed myself into the influence of alcohol to numb my pain for as long as I could.
But taking the responsibility to become healthy and caring about my well-being paid off really well. I had a few Reiki sessions recently, which was an unexplainable experience. Nothing much happened in the first few ones, but I definitely felt a change in my energy during the later sessions. I knew Reiki works differently for everyone, so I kept my patience until I knew it worked for me.
Finally, I felt the warmth of Reiki working in my body during the last session. Although I could not understand how it worked, I could feel butterflies dancing around my heart. I could sense my energy flowing all through my body, from the crown of my head to every limb, awakening every body cell. I could feel my body relaxed and relieved of the stored stress. It was truly magical.
Reiki practitioners rely on the ‘believe and receive’ formula. They often suggest their clients believe in becoming healthy. Once they form the intent of healing, they direct the energy in that particular chakra position to work its magic. So it is crucial to develop an intent before performing Reiki to channel the energy in the right direction.
